Draft for legal review

Reviews on Wumn come only from people who bought the piece. This page says how they are checked, counted and, rarely, removed.

Who can write a review?

In short

Only the person who bought the piece, once it has been delivered.

Wumn and its makers never write reviews.

  • Ready to wear. You can review a piece once the courier has delivered it to you. You can change your review later, and the change is checked again.
  • Made to order. You rate a piece made for you once it has reached you, from your order.
  • Never. A review by the maker, her family, her staff or her friends, by Wumn, or by anyone who did not buy the piece.
  • What shows. Your first name, the date, and the size and colour you bought, beside your words and your scores.

What makes a fair review, in the Community Guidelines

What is checked before a review shows?

In short

A computer reads the words, never the scores.

A flagged review, and every review with photographs, waits for a person.

A negative review is published like any other, and every review carries its date.

Before your review shows, a computer reads its words for three things:

  • A phone number, a link or a mention of WhatsApp.
  • An e-mail address.
  • A word on Wumn’s list of abusive, sexual or hateful words.

If it finds none of them, your review shows at once, whatever its scores. If it finds one, or your review has photographs, a person at Wumn reads it first. Photographs wait for a person because Wumn has no automatic check for pictures yet. While it waits you see it marked “Being checked”; no one else sees it, and it counts in no rating.

The check never reads your scores, so a low score is never held for being low. Every review shows the date it was written.

How is a rating worked out?

In short

A piece’s rating is the average of two scores, Well made and Like the photos. It shows from its first review.

A maker’s rating shows from her third review.

No rating appears before there are reviews, and none starts at a default.

  • The scores. Each review scores how well the piece is made and how like its photographs it is, and says how it fits.
  • One number. A piece’s rating is the average of its Well made and Like the photos scores, from published reviews only. The scores are shown one by one under it, with how many reviews they come from.
  • The maker’s number. The same average across the reviews of all her pieces on sale. It shows from her third review.
  • Fit. How people say a piece fits is shown on its own and never changes the rating.
  • On a feed card. A card shows a piece’s number beside a star only once the piece has a review.

Wumn’s database works out every rating. No one at Wumn, and no maker, can set or change one.

Can a review be paid for or rewarded?

In short

No. No one is paid, or given a discount, coins, a gift or a refund, for a review or for changing one.

A maker may not ask you for a review in return for anything.

  • Wumn never pays for reviews, never writes them, and never removes one because it is negative.
  • A maker may not review her own pieces, or have her family, staff or friends do it.
  • A maker may not offer a refund, a discount, a gift or a free piece for a review, or for changing or removing one.
  • A review that breaks these rules is removed, and the shop behind it may be suspended or closed.

If a maker offers you anything for a review, report the conversation, or write to care@wumn.in.

Reviews, in the Community Guidelines

Can a maker answer a review?

In short

Yes. A maker can reply once under each review of her pieces, in her shop’s name.

She can change or remove her reply. She cannot change or remove your review.

  • Under your review. Her reply shows as “Reply from” and the shop’s name.
  • Checked too. A reply with a phone number, a link, an e-mail address or a listed word is refused before it is saved.
  • Only a shown review. A review waiting for a person cannot be answered until it is published.
  • A maker who disagrees. If you are a maker and think a review breaks these rules, write to support@wumn.in. A person at Wumn decides; you cannot remove a review yourself.

When is a review removed, and can I appeal?

In short

Only for a reason in the rules, never for being negative.

The writer is told why, and can appeal to the Grievance Officer.

A review is removed only if it:

  • shares a phone number, an e-mail address, a link or another way to deal outside Wumn;
  • is abusive or hateful;
  • shares someone’s personal details;
  • is not about the piece;
  • is spam;
  • is unlawful, or a court or the law requires us to remove it.
  • Report a review. Anyone who sees a review that breaks these rules can use Report on it. A person at Wumn reads every report. A request to remove one is decided within 36 hours.
  • Urgent. A review reported as an intimate image of you, or as someone pretending to be you, is hidden at once while we check, and decided within 2 hours.
  • If yours is removed. You are told the reason in Wumn. If you think we were wrong, write to the Grievance Officer at care@wumn.in. We answer within 7 days.
  • Then. If you are still not satisfied, appeal to the Grievance Appellate Committee within 30 days at gac.gov.in.
